Heidi Lawton, the founder and owner of The Nottingham Lace Garter Co, launched her original bridal business Extra Special Touch back in 2009. To start with, she worked along side her full time job as a side hustle, and after giving up her job as a Sales Manager when he son was born in 2013. Extra Special Touch grew from strength to strength, specialising in personalised wedding gifts and accessories, such as handkerchiefs, wedding dress labels and embroidered wedding napkins. Extra Special Touch is regulary featured in glossy bridal magazines such as Brides, You and Your Wedding, Vogue and Tatler, and numerous online wedding blogs, such as Love My Dress, Rock n Roll Bride and Rock My Wedding. Heidi launched her Nottingham Lace bridal garters in 2014, just after the birth of her daughter.
In 2020, Heidi decided to create a sister co The Nottingham Lace Garter Co, dedicated to her handcrafted Nottingham Lace garters.
Heidi is a born and bred Nottingham girl, and from a young age was fascinated with the local history of Nottingham Lace. She studied Historical Costume Making at Bournemouth Art College and has always had a love for vintage fashions, embroidery and working with pretty materials.
When I designed my bridal garters, there was no question that I would use locally made Nottingham Lace. Not only is the factory only a few miles away from our studio, but its made to antique designs on vintage lace looms!
She works with her small, highly skilled team from a studio on the outskirts of Nottingham.
